Mukhed is the second most populous taluka in Nanded district after Nanded itself, with a Census 2011 population of 293,885 across 953 square kilometres. That is a density of 308 per square kilometre, just below the district average, spread over one of the larger taluka areas.
One location only: opposite Citizen Gym, Deglour Naka, Nanded 431604. Customers from Mukhed travel to that centre. There is no outcall or home-visit service.
Mukhed occupies a large block of the district's southern half, bordering Degloor to the east and reaching towards the Latur district boundary and the state border region to the south. It is the third largest taluka by area in the district, after Kinwat and Hadgaon.
With nearly 294,000 residents, Mukhed town serves a substantial rural catchment - one of the reasons it functions as a genuine secondary centre rather than simply a taluka headquarters.

National Highway 161A passes through Mukhed. Its route links Mahur, Kinwat, Himayatnagar, Mudkhed, Waghala and Mukhed across a total length of 507 km, which puts Mukhed on a continuous highway corridor into the Nanded Waghala area.
