Nanded District in Numbers: Population and Area by Taluka

Density is the more revealing measure. The district average is 319 people per km²; the range runs from 162 to 1,785.

Kinwat is roughly 3.8 times the area of Nanded taluka but has about a third of its population. And Nanded taluka holds 21.4% of the district’s people on 3.8% of its land.

Taluka-level Census data gets copied between websites, and errors propagate with it. Rather than trust a single source, we validated the whole set against the published district totals — possible because talukas partition the district exactly.

1. Population. The 16 taluka populations sum to 33,61,292. The published district population is 33,61,292. These match exactly — a difference of zero across 3.36 million people, which would be very unlikely if any single figure were wrong.
2. Area. The 16 taluka areas sum to 10,527 km² against a published district area of 10,528 km². The 1 km² gap is consistent with each taluka figure being rounded to the nearest whole square kilometre.
3. Density. Each taluka’s published density was checked against its own population divided by its own area. All 16 agree to within rounding.

The sums above are calculated in code from the same data that renders the table, not typed in — so if a figure were edited, the totals here would move and the check would visibly fail.

Public sources give two different figures for Mahur taluka: 99,940 and 99,040 — a transposition of two digits, and the kind of error that spreads easily because both look plausible.

The sum settles it. With 99,940, the 16 talukas total exactly the published district population of 3,361,292. With 99,040 they fall 900 short. So 99,940 is correct, and the figure of 99,040 — which we found on a widely-read page — is wrong.

The arithmetic above lets anyone verify that independently rather than take our word for it.

Two omissions, both deliberate, because a data page is only as trustworthy as the things it refuses to guess at.

Urban and rural shares by taluka. One source we consulted gave Nanded district as 51.64% urban and 48.59% rural. Those sum to 100.23%, so at least one is wrong — and the figures look like a male/female split mislabelled. The Census urban share for the district is 27.19%, which is the figure we use, and we have not published a taluka-level breakdown at all because we could not source one we trusted.

Road distances between towns. We looked. Public sources put the Nanded–Kinwat distance at anywhere from around 108 km to 143 km, depending on whether the figure is straight-line or driving distance and which route is assumed. There is no single correct number to publish, so our location pages give the direction and the actual road or rail corridor instead, and link to live directions.
